About Us

Randy Vogel was born and raised within walking distance to the Granville House B&B, attending Magee Secondary & Saint Georges School and completing a Bachelor of Arts program from the University of Victoria in Economics and Urban Geography. After university, Randy became a successful residential mortgage broker in Vancouver’s booming real estate market.

Pam Vogel was born in Winnipeg Manitoba, but moved to Aldergrove BC with her family before Elementary School. After high school, Pam moved to Downtown Vancouver, and quickly found work at Malone’s Bar & Grill, a Kitsilano hot spot that boasts 5 Vancouver locations and one in Shanghai China where Pam worked for 6 months. Pam worked 12 years in the service industry with Malone’s and met Randy while racing sailboats on a Wednesday night in English Bay.

After dating for many years, Randy suggested they both write down their 10-year goals. Pam’s goal of “B&B owner” was close enough to Randy’s “Home Builder”, that they wasted no time finding “Hycroft”, which was then a dilapidated 10-bed care-home. After working a year for Development Permits, and another year with (Brad) McPherson Construction Ltd, Pam & Randy moved into Hycroft, were married and opened Vancouver’s first purpose build B&B in 2000. Hycroft B&B was a quick success, and was upgraded from “family” furniture, to “designer” furniture after the first season. Today, repeat guests’ account for more then a third of all Hycroft B&B Suites visits.

Five years into the B&B business, we have two children; Kris & Rio. Wanting more space for our family, we started looking for a small home close to Hycroft. What we settled on was a 10-year-old, 6,000 square foot family home that was perfect for a first class B&B and our next home. We spent most of our renovation budget with (Mike) Reid Developments Ltd, remodeling the 8 bathrooms and purchasing premium beds, bedding & towels for our guests. Granville House B&B opened in 2007 and was quickly awarded Vancouver’s only Canada Select 5-Star B&B.

Initially, we found it awkward to promote the Hycroft & Granville House B&B's separately, and it was suggested we market under BBVancouver.com to provide a uniform website, email address and phone number. In 2009 we branded as BBVancouver.com, but that was the only change noticeable to our guests.

We have been very fortunate to have wonderful staff over the years. Many guests will remember Jenn and Eduardo. We currently have the help of Ren and Cory, so please say “hi” if you meet them. Ren helps with the Granville House B&B while Cory has been the “face” of Hycroft B&B Suites since 2005. While we work hard, we also play hard. We currently own a Martin 242 sailboat called “Trouble” which we keep on a trailer at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club dry-dock, and continue to race most every RVYC Wednesday Evening Series during the summer months. We are also Family Playing Members of the Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club at 15th & Fir, which has been a great place to work off our morning diets. We also enjoy the local bike routes, Sea Wall and Granville Island walks that we will recommend for you. We love calling “the worlds most livable city” our home, and we look forward to showing you why.

Pam and Randy have made many wonderful friends since 2000 from all walks of life and all corners of the earth. We love to open our homes to new friendships that enrich our lives with their stories and personalities. We hope to have the pleasure of your company and look forward to meeting globetrotters near and far. See you then!
